Location

Ermioni is built across a peninsula embraced by the sea on both sides, giving it the feeling of an island town with the benefits of being on the mainland. The old town rises up a hillside, with splendid views to nearby islands and a fertile plain rich in pomegranates, citrus fruits and olive groves. Below, the northern bay forms a natural harbor for the busy little port where you see fishermen cleaning their nets and small shops and cafes. Mandraki, to the south, offers a good selection of quay side restaurants, bars and traditional Tavernas with their octopuses hanging outside to dry in the sun.

At the peninsula’s tip is a pine-covered Bisti, where rocky coves offer great swimming in calm crystal clear waters. Walkers will discover the stone foundations of Temples, and the remains of “Cyclopean Walls”.  Here and on the opposite hillside are two renovated windmills from which you get great views of Ermioni and across to the Islands.

The famous ancient theatre of Epidaurus is about a one hour drive from the villa. The theater is considered the most impressive ancient Greek theater in terms of acoustics and aesthetics. Built in the fourth century B.C., the theater remained buried and therefore almost perfectly preserved until excavation began in 1870.The Epidaurus Festival was launched in 1955 and is held every summer with performances and screenings throughout June, July, and August. World-famous actors have performed at Epidaurus in recent years to sold-out crowds. Kevin Spacey’s 2011 performance in Richard III was a sensation that is still talked about and remembered. Tickets need to be bought in advance to ensure availability.

Also close by you can find the islands of Spetses and Ydra. Both can be accessed by water taxi,  Spetses island is a 30min ride while Hydra is only 10min.

By Sea – Airport Express Bus E96 to Pireaus Port then dolphin hydrafoil to Ermioni – Airport Express buses run from exit 5 of the airport, they run about every 15 minutes, tickets are 2.90 euros from the kiosk, allow 1 hour for the journey. At the Port you get a ticket from the Flying Dolphin Kiosk for Ermioni (Hermioni). It’s a very comfortable 2 hour trip over, dropping off at the islands of Poros and Hydra on the way, with views of the islands and coastline.

By car – Hire Car from Airport to Ermioni. The drive takes 2:45 hours and is pretty straight forward, as you get straight onto the new Attiki Odos motorway that bypassses Athens, following signs for Elefsina and then Korinth, (where you cross the Corinth Canal). Then you head for Epidavros and on to Ermioni. This road is very scenic as it goes along the coast and then through the mountains.
